He's Got A Huge One

Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller that is.  His is bigger than yours or anybody else's.  The worlds largest container ship belongs to the worlds largest shipping company which has it's headquarters in one of the worlds smallest countries - Denmark.  The ship is 400 meters/1,300 ft. long, 73 meters /240 ft. high, 59 meters/190 ft. wide and weighs in at 192,800 tonnes.  It can carry at least 18,000 20ft. containers.  It lets out by far, much less CO2 than any other method of transportation (donkey and or camel excluded).

For comparison the Eiffel Tower is 324 meters/1,063 ft. high.
The ship arrived into Copenhagen last week and my good friend Dan from Noy Joysey invited me to a self guided tour.  He got the tickets from his sunny California workmate Andrew.  A big thank-you to both of you for a wonderful experience.

There are a few pictures here and then all 59 pix can be seen on my shutterfly - click here.

Basically tickets were set up at 15 minute intervals and we were set to go at 5:45 in the evening.  We lined up at the gate and then at 5:45 exactly we climbed up the 16 flights of stairs that were attached to the side of the ship for the tour.  Once we reached the top deck we had to continued up the ships stairs all the way up to the bridge of the ship.  We entered one side of the bridge, walk across it and then down again to the upper deck.  The we had to cross the upper deck of the ship again and then back down the 16 flights.  Very simple and extremely exciting and fascinating - why you could even say, Majestic.

Me, Dan, Jørn and Morten on our way to the cruise-ship harbor.

Jørn, Morten and I, met Dan in front of his office at Mærsk and then we walked/bike over to the ship to find Andrew who had all of the tickets.  This is what we saw as we approached the harbor where all the cruise ships come in.
The ship is to the right and one of Copenhagens most expensive luxury apartments is too the left - they're almost the same size.

She might be little but her boobs are huge! - Almost the size of the ship.

This is the scaffolding stairway that was added to the side of the ship for the tour.

Once you get to the top deck you see this.  And YOU have see these containers as well in your part of the world.

From the top deck I look up and we still have to climb this huge piece to iron artwork.

Wow!  The above pix was taken with my very expensive camera and needed work.
the pix below was taken with my phone and came out very bright with a wider angle.
Anyone wanna buy a camera?

On the horizon, just to left of the dome of the Marble Chruch, is a building with cranes around it. That area marks the end of my neighborhood, Islands Brygge, where brand new apartments are going up.

At the very top of the ship is the bridge.

Even at the highest point, how can you see where the back of the boat ends.
Looking towards the stern.

Not only does my phone have a great camera but it also has one of these gizmo thingies too.

Looking towards the bow.
You may have to zoom in to see it but at the waters edge on the left is a HUGE flat roof building.  It's the royal opera house and it was given as a gift to the city by the ship owner Mærsk Mc-kinny Møller.

After crossing the bridge we make our way down to the upper deck then cross it to find our way down the stairs again.  It was an amazing ship and it really felt like walking through a huge piece of art.  You can read more about the ship here and you can see more of my pix here.

Up at the top we wave good-bye (photo: courtesy of Jørn's photo and art supplies)

We cross the upper deck and head out into the sunset -
but watch that first step - it's a doozie!

On Wednesday, Sept 25, the crown prince's wife, Mary from down under christened the ship, Majestic -
