Happy New Year 2019

My day started at 4:20 on the last day of the year.  Then after work I picked up the bread that I ordered from the baker and went out to buy some flowers.  When I got home, I got started on setting the table for the evening. 



The Aalborg is a type of aquavit that is epically tasty with herring or cured fish.


While I was preparing the food, I heard someone shouting: Hello! Hello! - I looked out and there was our neighbor Britta with a baggie full of home-made kransekage - it's the dessert that everybody eats for New Years.
The kransekage from my neighbor is in the bag.  I had a few other photos of the table but I guess I somehow deleted them.  Anyway, behind the plastic bag is the cake that I bought from the bakery which was cutely decorated with a clock striking midnight.

After the table was complete I started our first course to be ready in time for the queen's new years speech.  Blinis with the queen!  I'm not sure of the pronunciation but I like to call them Baleenies.

 There are 6 baleenies for each of us if you are wondering.
Fish eggs or lax on cream cheese.
 Along with some nice white wine.


On the tube, the royal guards are in front of the Fredensborg Palace where the queen will be giving her speech.





After the queen's speech we have fish on a slice of fresh bread.  
The fish is raw salmon which is cured in salt, sugar and dill.   






Then comes the creamy lobster soup.

And then I warmed up the pre baked, breaded fish.
If I had the time, I would have made the fish from scratch.
However, I had to go to work today so I scratched that idea pretty quickly.
But I will say that I was actually at the market looking at fish.
Flounder - if you are wondering.
It is served on fresh bread with remolade,
which is the Danish version of tarter sauce.



And the 5th course is a mountain of Greenland shrimp on fresh bread.
It is served along with, mayo, white asparagus, tomato and dill.



We are done with dinner - finally.  Then we watch a bit of tube and then at the stroke of 12, I poured a glass of champagne and then out I go to light a few fireworks to ring in the new year.

Me trying not to burn myself in 6 seconds - I failed.  Something fell off of the rocket and landed on the ground and it was still smoldering even after the rocket exploded.  But before the smoldering ash fell on the ground, it hit my finger and left a bit of white skin on my finger.
