MEXICO's State Visit

I guess I missed it yesterday - April 13th. -  I had the afternoon shift and I guess the President of Mexico landed during the day shift.  Not to mention my job of driving from plane to plane has become so much more of an office and indoor job :-(

Anyway........ Just in case you missed it - and you did - here are a few highlights that I managed to get from a recorded TV broadcast.  Feel free to skim the pix.  I am sure most of you cannot access the tv website  but if you can here is the link. (it might not be available in your area due to royalty rights and such.)  Otherwise.... her are a few pix of the event.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto arrives in Copenhagen.

 State Arrival Ceremony

A Royal welcome approaching Fredensborg Palace.

The entrance of Fredensborg Palace.

Fredensborg Palace is about an hour north of Copenhagen.

In the Rolls is Queen Margrethe of Denmark and Mexican President Nieto.

In the following car is Angélica Rivera, wife of Mexican President. (in the green)

On the door steps of the Palace.

Inside the of the Palace.

After the arrival there is a tour to Helsingborg Castle aka Hamlet's Castle.

Giving the tour is Crown Prince Fredrick and his wife Crown Princess Mary from down-under.

Then there is a brief history about earlier state visits from Denmark to Mexico.
Margrethe was also in Mexico while she was a young woman, before she was queen, while her father was the King of Denmark.
 Official bizz.

 More official bizz.

Here she is visiting an orphanage.

Here in  2008 she is visiting an ancient site with a drawing of  Jacob the Dacian.

From Wikipedia: Brother Jacob the Dacian (Spanish: Jacobo Daciano; Latin: Iacobus de Dacia; c. 1484 in Copenhagen, Denmark – 1566 in Michoacán, New Spain) was a Danish-born Franciscan monk and probable Prince of Denmark, Norway and Sweden. He achieved fluency in eight languages and fame among the indigenous people of Michoacán as a righteous and helpful man toward his flock. His relics, now lost, were kept for a long time by the Indians of Tarécuato who still celebrate his birthday every year.  A Danish historian argues that Jacob was the son, apparently extramarital, of King John of the Kalmar Union and a younger brother of King Christian II, both Danes.

Even more official bizz in Mexico.

Later that evening while I was pushing packages and pounding on the computer at the airport, the queen and the prez were having a tasty party.  Over 125 guest were invited.

Here is the Mexican Ambassador to Denmark and his wife.

Crown Prince Fredrik and his wife Crown Princess Mary.

The guest are just now entering the banquet hall.

After all the guest arrive and are at their chairs, Queen Margrethe enters with her guest, President Nieto.

After the queen sits down, then everyone else sits down.  Then the queen stands up and makes a welcome speech to her guest.  The speech tells about her personal connection to Mexico as well as the country's connection to Mexico.

When Queen Margrethe has finished her welcome speech, The president tells about Mexico's connection to Denmark and thanks the Danes for their welcome.

His speech contains hopeful, continued and increased support and business partnership between the 2 countries.  Denmark is the number 1 European country to have relations with Mexico.

Here the Mexican President tells about the first Dane to visit Mexico - Brother Jacob the Dacian.

And the speech ends with a "¡Salud!"....

....and happily, while guzzling the booze, the queen was caught off guard when Nieto also said: "Skål!"
