West Coast - Vejers Strand

When I returned from my USA tour, NY and CT, it was on a Friday afternoon.  There was just enough time to catch up on the jetlag, unpack and repack for a beach retreat cottage house at Vejers Beach.   It's a 3 hour car journey but we managed to do it in just under 4 hours; stopping a few times for coffee, stopping for lunch, stopping to stretching out and driving in the slow lane where there is far less stress and fewer people riding on the bumper of the car as they do here in this country.

Jens' sister Gitte booked the cottage that sleeps 6.  Big kitchen with large dinning area, nice living room, large yard, large covered patio and even a sauna hut.  It was all very nice and very well taken care of.  We booked the cottage from Saturday to Saturday but Jens and I showed up on Sunday and we left on Friday.

We didn't do anything at all except relax, eat, a lot of talking and just have a nice chillout visit with Gitte and Carlo, her husband.   Oh and their very sweet doggie, Freja, too.

Here are a few pix from the trip.  On day 1 when we arrived, it was cold and gray so we just slowly unpacked our bags and got comfortable in the cottage which was very nice for me.  On day 2 it was still gray and cold but we took a drive to the beach anyway.  That's the one thing that is very special about this beach - you can drive on it.  Very surprisingly, the sand is wheelchair friendly.  It was so easy to push the wheelchair around.

Lifeguards with their safety vehicles at their tower.

Very windy, so this is a great place for kite surfing.

The small village had an assortment of ice-cream parlors.  I took lots of pictures but what I didn't know is that I somehow set the camera on manual focus and more than half of the pix came out very blury :-(

I'm blind and can't even figure out how to take a selfie.

Jens is always the card when eating ice-cream.

Eating, playing cards, cake n coffee, watching video's - all very easy going - no stress.

Then by mid-morning, the sun came out on day 3.  We finally went out to the yard to soak up some rays.  We sat here for about 2 hours, played cards and had coffee.  Notice how white Jens' face is.  Finally we get up and go for a drive again out on the beach.

At the beach in front of us the sky is cloudy and becoming more so.  Behind us the sky is blue but the clouds are creeping in.  In no time, Jens' face turned beet read just from the 3 to 4 hours of sunshine.

There were these huge, fun kites high in the sky but snapping photos with all the gray glare is not so nice.

There are lots of friendly dogs here and there.

Once we get to the end of the sand road, we turn back and walk to where we parked our car.
The sun may be out but it is still very cool and windy.

Even so, the beach is beautiful.

Then I realize I need to shoot the kites from the other direction.

On Thursday late afternoon, John and Birthe popped in also.  It was really a fun visit with them.  They also live just a few minutes away from us but it was fun to see them so far away from Copenhagen.  They have a beautiful summer cottage of their own in the greater Copenhagen county where we have visited them many times.
We spent the rest of the day together visiting and having dinner.  The following day Jens and I packed up and after a big breakfast for 6 and doggie, we drove back to Copenhagen.  John and Brithe stayed on with Gitte and Carlo for the last night. I snapped this photo just before we left.   I found out from Gitte that the 4 of them had taken a drive down to the beach again but they ended up leaving sooner than planned because of the weather.

Here and there along the roadside is a bit of artwork.
Here is a set of iron deer.

As we left the cottage, we had our windshield wipers sweeping back and forth as we take a round about way home.  Our goal was to meet one of our old neighbors Bettina and John who have just moved from a beautiful apartment in our complex and they now live in the county side on 15 acers of land over looking the city of Vejle.  John still works in Copenhagen and that is where he was at while we were visiting.
