Parkinson Unity Walk

Just a few days after we came home from our road trip on the other side of Denmark, I participated in the Parkinson Unity Walk.  The idea behind the event is to raise awareness about Parkinson Disease as well as to give those with the disease a chance to partake in the event with exercise.  Exercise is very important for those with the disease.  Actually exercise is very important for those who are still breathing.  So I went to the march and the festival to show my support.  It was fun and it was a great day filled with sunshine for such a happening.  Here now are a few pix from the event.

The day started with announcements from the representatives or "Protectors" as they are called.  There were awards for the winner of a 3 day bike event which was also to raise Parkinson's awareness.  The biking team is called TeamFox Brainstormers and was sponsored by an organisation called Bike4Cure.  The team leader is a well known celebrity named Frank Hvam.  You should be able to see him here in his bike gear - first pix on the left. He is well know for his roll in the comedy series called Klovn (clown) The series was such a big success they made a movie and the movies was such a big hit, Warner Brothers in 2012 bought the rights to re-make an American version which i am sure is much more toned down. Have you seen it yet?  Don't click onto the trailer if you are not ready for a lot of nudity and toilet-trash scenes.

It turns out that I knew someone in the bike race.  The guy on the left is an old workmate of mine and he was riding for support for his friend's friend with Parkinson's.

The man in the green, center stage, is also a celebrity.  Jan Gintberg a comedian as well and goes from country village to country village on tv showing the funny side of the villages and introducing the villages to the rest of the country.  Here is a brief about his career.

The Asian/Austrian women here is the first wife of the second son of the Danish Royal Family. While she was married to the prince, she was a princess.  After the divorce she has become a Grevinde (countess) Still she is mother to her 2 son's who are in the Royal line of succession for the throne as number 5 and 6.  (in other words - it ain't gonna happen)
Countess Alexandria is the main reason we all squeeze our way forward to the stage.  She is the Protector of the Parkinson's organization.  And it's fun for me to get this close to Royalty.

The crowd was huge on this 5th annual Parkinson Unity Walk.

Again - it's all about movement and here we are warming up for the walk with hands in the air like we just don't care.
Me.

Now comes the fun part.  The Samba team and dancer are arriving to start the parade/walk.

 Here we go............

So now we have just left Christianborg Palace and headed for the King's Garden.
Passing the Naval Church.

Passing the National Bank.
Passing the Royal Theater.
And now we are entering the 'Finish Line' in the King's Park.

Here on stage there will be lots of music - excellent music.  But first we will squeeze in the last bit of Samba.  There is a lot of food and drink to buy and taste and lots of activities for the kiddies.  It's a big pic-nic party style event and hopefully you and I will get a chance to participate next year.

There are miles of tables for eating and relaxing and enjoying the day - I sure did.

Last week Parkinson Unity Walk took place in New York.  You can see pix of the event here.
And check out the video to see how much fun you can have and how much support you can give.

Here are a few clips of the great music at this years event.
