Autumn Drive

Last night on the news they showed the beautiful colors of the Danish autumn.  I said to Jens, if the sun comes out tomorrow, let's take a drive.  By 11:00, the sun was in and out and we decided to take a chance.  Here are a few pix of our drive.  And a funny video too if you turn the sound up.

I took these photos (above and below) for my sister who loves to bike ride.
It's to show the wonderful biking opportunities in the Danish countryside.
But she doesn't read my blogs so she'll never know.

This is a funny 10 second video - turn up the sound and listen carefully.

Just one of the many wonderful buildings we passed.

The next 3 photos are from a rest stop along the beach road.

Here now for all you bike entusiast are 2 videos of a bike lane passing this rest stop.
Here comes a bike.

The next video shows the bike continuing on the bike path, then turning the camera to the other side of the road towards a park with a partial view of the Baltic Sea.

It was a very nice sunny drive and maybe in a few days we'll do it again to see even deeper colors.
I hope your autumn is falling nicely into place.

Happy Birthday Birthe - again!

Birthe's big birthday was last year.  She turned the big Seven-Oh my goodness corner and was about to throw a big birthday bash at Bjælke Huset.  But thanks to covid-19, Birthe had to put off the party until it was safe again to be among friends and family.

Now that the situation has become safe(r) in this part of the world, Birthe was finally able to celebrate "turning the corner" - as we say in Denmark.

Just a half hour walk west from the central station in Copenhagen is a huge green area which includes the Copenhagen Zoo, Fredriksberg Have (garden) and Søndermarken (the southern field) and more.  Fredriksberg Have is on a flat area and just across the street is Søndermarken which is on the only hill within the this part of the country.  It's a low hill, only 30 meters (100 feet)  high.

On the south edge of Søndermarken are 3 little wooden log cabins called Bjælke Huset (log cabin). It was built in 1915 and according to it's website, the woman who ran the kitchen, invented deep fried camembert but I have not been able to confirm this fact with google.  It is however one of the specialties on the menu card: Fried camembert, served with blackcurrant jam, fried parsley and toast.

Here is a photo of the entrance from the street. (from the website)

And a photo of the entrance from the park. (from the website)

It was here at Bjælkehuset where Birthe invited her friends and family to have a traditional Danish birthday lunch celebration.  It was, as they say, pure "hygge".  Here now, are a few photos I snapped of the celebration.

Seats were assigned - it's tradition.
Jens has a nic-name: Trolle.

Torben and Mia just stepped off of an airplane from Italy.

It turned out that Jens and I knew the waiter, Runi.  He's a really good friend of Preben.  Here he is setting out the cookies that Birthe made for the party.  I think that is so funny and so sweet and so personal.  Oh my god. I think each cookie had half a stick of butter in them.  They were delicious.  I ate 4 and I wanted more.

There were only 2 left and I took one. Shhhhhhhhh...........

The birthday girl and her husband, John.

Happy Birthday Birthe.  Tillykke med dagen.
Det var en fantastisk hyggelig dag.
